Driving is not enough in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, you also have to know how to use your weapons! Here is a detailed list of items in this episode.
The Circuits | Characters | The vehicles | Objects |
What the salt of Mario Kart is of course its weapons and objects and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is no exception to the rule. This new Switch edition sees the return of the Boo and the Plume (only in Battle mode for the latter). It is also possible to carry two objects at the same time, like Mario Kart Double Dash!!
Green Shell |
Description: A simple projectile that travels in a straight line and can bounce three times before breaking. |
How to use it well: The green shell will require a lot of precision to hit your opponents. Wait until an opponent is on a straight line or skidding to predict their moves and shoot. You can keep the green shell behind you to protect yourself from other projectiles. You can also pull the shell back.
Triple Green Shell |
Description: Three green shells that revolve around you. |
How to use it well: They are used the same way as regular green shells, except you can't keep them behind your back. They make a very effective shield.
Red Shell |
Description: Similar to Green Shell, but homing. The red shell will follow the road until it finds the first opponent in front of you. |
How to use it well: Red shells are easier to use. Throw them when there is enough room in front of you, since it takes a little while for the homing head to fire.
Red Triple Shell |
Description: Three red shells circling around you. |
How to use it well: Do not use all your red shells at once, your opponent would only be stunned by the first one. Leave a small delay between two shots. It is the ideal object to catch up with one or two targets that are too far away.
blue shell |
Description: A shell that stalks the player in first position and explodes on contact. |
How to use it well: Its use is similar to that of the Red Shell, except that the Blue Shell only stalks the player in first position and knocks down everyone else in its path. It's almost impossible to dodge it without a Super Horn.
Fire Flower |
Description: Once triggered, you have 6 seconds to throw 10 fireballs that can bounce off walls once. |
How to use it well: When opponents are in front of you, don't hesitate to trigger the flower and strafe in front of you while turning slightly to cover a large area. You can also shoot backwards.
Boomerang |
Description: A projectile to send a short distance and then return to you. It can be used three times before it disappears. |
How to use it well: If an enemy is directly in front of you when you fire, even if the enemy moves to dodge before the boomerang lands on them, the boomerang will still follow and hit them. If you have two items in your hand when you shoot the boomerang, you won't be able to reuse it until you have used your second item. It can be pulled back.
Bob-ombe |
Description: A projectile launched in front or behind you, which stays on the ground for a few seconds before hurtling towards a nearby enemy and exploding. |
How to use it well: It is better to throw this bomb in front of an opponent than on him, the small legs as well as the radius of action of the bomb will make you hit the opponent. It is exactly the best defensive object to drop behind either to get rid of the hindrances. On the other hand, do not keep it behind your back for protection because you would explode with it.
banana |
Description: The banana peel allows you to place a "mine" on the ground behind you. |
How to use it well: The banana peel is the basic obstacle in Mario Kart. You can land them anywhere behind you, but it's best to place them in strategic places like the inside of turns or behind a throttle to immediately negate the benefits. You can keep the banana in your back to protect yourself from projectiles coming in your back. It is not recommended to throw bananas forward. Be careful, you can take your own banaes! |
|
Triple Banana |
Description: Just like triple shell, but with bananas. |
How to use it well: It's a great shield too, but also allows you to create a banana wall around a turn to really stop opponents from tracking you.
Champignon |
Description: Gives you a speed boost and ignores terrain texture. |
How to use it well: The Mushroom gives you strong acceleration and allows you to reach your maximum speed. It's the main tool for borrowing shortcuts from the game since you can go off-road without being slowed down while using it. You can also crash into a speeding enemy to send them flying. The mushroom erases the ink from the Bloops.
Triple Mushroom |
Description: Three mushrooms that revolve around you. Used like mushrooms. |
How to use it well: The use is the same as the normal Mushroom. Be careful though, since the mushrooms revolve around you, if an enemy touches one, he consumes it for you.
Golden Mushroom |
Description: A mushroom that you can reuse as many times as you want for a short time after its first use. |
How to use it well: Do not hesitate to use it and abuse it, but be careful, by going so fast, you risk having surprises in the turns.
Etoile |
Description: The star allows you to be invincible and increase your speed, while ignoring the texture of the terrain for a few seconds. Enemies you hit while invincible are sent flying. |
How to use it well: There's no real wrong way to use the star, but if you're lucky it will allow you to dodge a Lightning Bolt or Bullet Bill.
Boo |
Description: The Ghost steals an item from one of the players and makes you invisible and invincible for a few seconds. |
How to use it well: Like the star, there is no bad time to use the ghost, but it is more interesting to use when you have a projectile and the ghost in hand. By using the ghost, you will probably remove the object from the opponent in front of you, who will then have no means of defending themselves from your projectile.
Bloups |
Description: The Bloop sends ink stains on the screen of all opponents in front of you. This obstructs their field of vision for 10 seconds. |
How to use it well: While you can theoretically throw it whenever you want, it's best to do so when you're sure there won't be any boosters on the ground since those wipe out the ink immediately.
Eclair |
Description: Lightning stops, shrinks, and slows all opponents for a few seconds. The further an opponent is behind the first in the race, the faster it returns to its normal size. |
How to use it well: Lightning is always useful, but it can be even more devastating if you cast it at the right time. For example, if the leader of the race is in the middle of a jump or in full flight, triggering the lightning can cause him to fall into the void and waste a lot of time. Make sure no opponent is invulnerable when casting it.
Piece |
Description: Gives you 2 extra coins. |
How to use it well: This item is to be used immediately if you do not already have 10 coins, unless you are the target of a homing projectile. Having 10 coins increases your maximum speed. If you already have 10 coins, are in first position and need items to defend yourself, use them anyway to make room in your inventory.
Super Horn |
Description: The Super Horn attacks all opponents and destroys all obstacles around you the moment you trigger it. |
How to use it well: The Super Horn is useful whether you're in the peloton or in the fray. It is the only object capable of stopping a blue shell. Use it as soon as the danger indicator appears on your screen.
Piranha Plant |
Description: The Piranha Plant periodically gives a boost for about ten seconds. She also attacks and swallows any objects in front of you, giving you another boost. |
How to use it well: The Piranha plant is a good accelerator which also allows you to get rid of enemies protected by triple-objects. However, it does not allow off-roading.
Bill Ball |
Description: You transform into Bill Ball, which makes you invincible makes you go up the whole track on autopilot for a few seconds and at very high speed. |
How to use it well: Use it. Point.
Roller-coaster |
Description: The Grand 8 allows you to throw 8 objects in a row. |
How to use it well: The objects offered by the Big Eight are always the same. It is a coin, a green shell, a red shell, a banana, a mushroom, a star, a bloup and a bob-omb. Items are used in the order listed above. |
