Test LEGO The Great Adventure: the episode too many?

Test LEGO The Great Adventure: the episode too many? It's no surprise that The LEGO Movie: The Video Game scrupulously follows the film's script. And for those who haven't seen it yet, without spoiling the pleasure of discovering it, we accompany Emmet in his misadventures. From a simple construction worker, our hero mistakenly becomes Master Builder capable of saving the universe from the vile Lord Business. But he will not be alone in his quest and will be able to count on a wise old man by the name of Vitrivius, on CoolTag (a courageous young woman) and even on guest-stars such as Batman, Green Lantern or Gandalf. No need to go into details, you will have understood it right away, all the characters will be unlockable in the game. There are 98 of them exactly, well 73 if we exclude the different variations of clothing… That's not much! So it's sure that compared to the Marvel, Star Wars or DC Comics universes, The LEGO Great Adventure can hardly compete, but regulars of LEGO games will not find their account. And that's perhaps the main flaw of the game: you're always hungry!

Test LEGO The Great Adventure: the episode too many? But before embarking on the quest for 100%, let's start at the beginning. The game is divided into 4 game areas, where you are free to roam in search of hidden secrets. Each zone offers you 3 to 4 levels inspired by the film that you will have to do in Story mode then in Free mode in order to get your hands on all the bonuses of the level with the help of previously unlocked characters. At the rate of twenty minutes per level, the Story mode is torched in barely 6 hours and the Free mode will not require as much. With roughly a lifespan not exceeding 15 hours of play, The Great LEGO Adventure: The Video Game is perhaps the shortest game in the franchise. And it is not the famous 4 free zones (Briqueburg, Far West, Land of Little Clouds, Octan Tower) that will increase the lifespan. Limited in size and bonuses, they are more like transitions in which you shop for characters. Even the collection of LEGO pieces is fast, whereas usually we spend hours and hours breaking buildings, sets or characters to amass a maximum of dough before being able to buy a meager bonus or an expensive multiplier of pieces. We feel that The LEGO Great Adventure was developed for an audience that is not used to other Traveller's Tales productions. And it's a shame because the software loses some of its charm.

Test LEGO The Great Adventure: the episode too many?Yet the rest of the production takes up most of the ingredients that make the success of other games stamped LEGO, starting with the characters. Each of them has its own function. Emmet, for example, can fix broken objects, use a jackhammer, or build certain objects with a blueprint. Unlike CoolTag or Batman who can make objects without any plan. Female characters jump higher. Vitruvius easily crosses risky areas. Robots can hack into certain terminals in a Pac-Man-style mini-game… It's up to you to use the characters' ability wisely to advance and solve certain puzzles. You will even be entitled to a few QTEs to dance to the heady piece of music "Everything is awesome". In this regard, if the French dubbing is of high quality, it is difficult to marvel at the 2-3 musical themes that loop in the game to the point of purely and simply cutting off the option in the menus. As for the visual aspect, The LEGO Movie: The Video Game respects the film even to imitate the jerky movements of the characters in a stop-motion way. Fans will appreciate. Note, however, that in this episode, destroyed objects too often tend to block our progress. It's not uncommon to have to wait for them to disappear before you can move forward. Frustrating, as much as characters getting stuck or worse ending up in areas not meant for them. And then if you really have the scoumoune, a small console reboot will be necessary when the end of level summary does not start and you cannot leave the game "cleanly". These many small flaws lead us to imagine the worst: what if the developers rushed to match the release of the game and the movie squeezing certain aspects of the game?
