Gold coins are the sinews of war, in the rift as on Teamfight Tactics! We explain everything about how POs work, when and how to save, and when to spend.
The management of your money is essential in Teamfight Tactics ! When can you spend freely? When is it better to save? We explain to you how the mechanics related to gold work, depending on the situation, but also how to spend, and above all why not spend, in order to take the advantage over your opponents throughout the game.
How do you earn OP?
In Teamfight Tactics, you will earn money passively at the start of each round. The amount depends on three different parameters.
The natural gain - From the start of the game, you will earn an amount of coins equal to the round number. The first round therefore earns you 1 coin, the second earns 2, and so on. From the fifth round, you will necessarily earn 5 coins at the start of each combat phase, no matter what.
The interests - For every ten coins you have, you will earn one interest bonus coin. This bonus piece is symbolized by the golden statuette placed above your inventory. You cannot earn more than 5 interest coins per spin. By looking at your opponents' game board, you can see if they are also earning interest or not, which lets you know roughly how much gold they have in their pocket.
The win/loss streak bonus - You earn extra money if you are in a streak, whether winning or losing. You earn 1 coin from 3 consecutive wins or 3 losses. With a series of 4, you will win 2 coins. Finally, from a series of 5, you will earn 3 coins.
In total, you can therefore earn up to 13 gold coins per turn passively. But there are two other ways to make money.
The Pirate Origin - When you have four Pirates on the playing field, you make a chest appear at the end of each fight against another player. This chest contains a random sum ranging from 0 to 4 gold coins. To collect your winnings, you will have to move your mini-legend over these pieces.
The sale - When you sell a champion, you get back some of their value in the form of gold coins. The resale price of champions depends on both their tiers and their current level at the time of sale. You generally make more money selling 3 level 1 units than selling a level 2 unit.
Use your money at the start of the game
At the beginning of a game, you should not hesitate to use your money. It is important to build the base of your army with at least 3 units and you will necessarily need to spend some money for this. This does not mean that you should reroll the store all the time, only buy what interests you among the characters offered by the store.

Save money in the middle game
When you start to have a good foundation for your team (4 complementary champions), you should start saving your money as much as possible in order to raise the interest. The technique is simple: only spend money to buy a champion who will help you evolve one of the four units already on the board.
Never buy anything before a fight against neutral monsters. These are simple tricks that are perfect for saving money and will have very little effect on your score in the game. If the store has interesting champions, lock it. That being said, if you are not sure of winning the fight, you can buy a champion or two if and only if it immediately improves one of your champions present on the game board.
If possible, you should never spend money if your purchase takes you down one interest step. If you are interested in a champion in the store, but you only have 20 coins, it may be better to lock the store and wait for the next turn to buy it.
The interest mechanics are exponential, which means your first rounds of saving might not be interesting, but once you start hitting 30 or 40 coins, you'll start amassing a nice fortune at the end of each round.
In order to accelerate your gains, don't hesitate to sell champions of very low rarity that are no longer interesting in your composition. This will give you some extra gold that could cushion the purchase of a champion that is too rare and interesting to pass up.
How to spend your money when you're rich
From the moment you exceed 50 gold, you will earn at least 10 gold coins at the start of each round. Now is the time to invest in high-priced champions if they match your composition, but above all, now is the time to invest in experience! You should always spend all the money over the 50 coins, whether it's on champions or a few rerolls.
The most worthwhile investment, however, is experience. Let's say you have 64 gold coins on you, and only one Anivia interests you in the store. You can buy Anivia for 5 gold, which leaves you with 59 coins. So you can spend 8 gold
This method is the only one that will allow you to reach levels 8 and 9 for your Little Legend. This is important for two reasons.
The first is that you will be able to put more champions on the field, and therefore be more powerful in addition to having more synergies of classes and origins. The second is that the rarity of champions found in the store depends on the level of your Little Legend. By investing in experience, you will ensure that you find between 1 and 3 legendary champions with each rotation of the store. The legendary units are of course the most powerful and the rarest, therefore the most interesting.
When to go all-in and spend all your money
Money is only useful if you spend it. If you have 53 gold, but risk death in the next battle, it is better to spend it all than to lose by being rich. Managing your money and your spending timings depends above all on the feeling you have about the game and the confidence you have in your composition. If the situation is delicate: spend! Spin the store to find the champion you need to evolve your composition as much as necessary! This advice is valid at any time of the game, even in the 3rd round.
lose to win
Be aware, however, that you should not panic if you lose a few life points during the economy rounds. Those who spend a lot of money at the start of the game will naturally have the upper hand in the beginning and keep a lot of VPs, but there will come a time when you can turn the game around as soon as you start investing in the last phase of the game.
Sometimes it's even better to sabotage your own team to keep losing and preserve a losing streak that will bring extra gold. At the start of the game, a defeat will not be very punitive. You will only lose 1 to 10 HP maximum, which is quite acceptable if it boosts your savings.
In addition, by losing life points, you will be given priority in the carousel. This will allow you to collect rarer champions or items. If you are not interested in any champion, you can simply take the most expensive one to resell it and make the maximum profit while recovering its object.
