Every champion of Teamfight Tactics, must have at least one class and origin, this is one of the conditions to be able to join the Convergence, the playground of Teamfight Tactics. These classes and origins, which we group together here in "type" to make it simpler, they are not taken at random. Each type has an explanation in the lore of league of legends, making theories on this subject much easier to develop.

The classes

For classes, Riot Games was inspired by the champion's function on the one hand, and its equipment on the other hand. There may be overlaps, in this case we select the class that best suits the character. For example, Garen wields a sword, but he's more characterized by his unstoppable side than his swordsmanship skills. He is therefore a Knight and not a Blademaster.

Class Champions belonging to this class...
Knight ... wear heavy armor
Assassin ... are mobile and have high damage
Blademaster ... fight with a blade, sword, saber, etc. (and for an axe?)
brawler ... fight with their bare hands or with their claws
Elementalist ... clearly represent an element
Gunman ...are ADCs who wield a gun
Cleaning ...are ADCs that do not use a firearm
Shapeshifter ...clearly change shape in their gameplay
Wizard ... master magic
guardian ... carry a shield

How about a "Toxic" class? We imagined some possibilities at the bottom of the article!

The origins

Origins are obviously easier to find, although League of Legends champions are often exceptions, for example with Poppy, who is a Yordle, but could very well be Noble. It must also be understood that the names of the origins are not directly the same as in the lore of League of Legends. Thus, the Demacians are all Nobles, although not all have royal blood.

Origins Champions belonging to this origin...
Demon ... are all derived from human (from an animal would also be imaginable)
Exile ... do not belong to any faction
Dragon ... wear dragon skin or are directly from it
Ghost ...are ghosts come back to life
Glacial ... come from the Freljord
hextech ... come from Piltover
Imperials ... come from Noxus
néant ...come from the Void
Ninja ...use energy for their spell kit
Noble ...are from Demacia
Pirate ... live in Bilgewater
Robot ... are machines
Wild ...are animals or animal derivatives
Yordle ...are simply Yordles
Duplicates and Choices

Some champions may belong to two different types. In this case, Riot Games reacts in two different ways.

► give a second class or origin to a champ.

► To slice and assume that one of the classes predominates.

In the first case, we can cite Gangplank, who fights with both a saber and a pistol. Rather than leaving a pistol on a melee champion, the choice was the most logical: he belongs to both classes and uses both weapons. In the second case, we can cite Volibear, who is also an animal and could be a Savage or even an Elementalist. The choice was to preserve what the champion is in game and not in the lore: a white bear therefore Glacial, who distributes slaps therefore Brawler.

Teamfight Tactics: How to Predict the Classes and Origins of New ChampionsFor now, there are only 4 champions with two classes or two origins, but Kai'Sa will soon be the fifth!

It should also be noted that Riot Games seeks to balance its game. Champions with three types are logically pivotal champions in the comps and therefore very powerful and contested champions. We can thus imagine that the Riot Games team has already decided to close a logical choice of type to keep a balance. Just imagine Volibear with the Savage bonus attainable so quickly, that would probably be too much.

Types not yet existing

Many League of Legends champions do not follow the current classification. Take Jax for example, it does not follow any existing type. He would have an easy place in Blademaster due to his lore, but in game he does not fight with a blade. Likewise for its origin, it is not yet clearly defined. So there are still new classes and origins that should be added as the game progresses and surprises will come.

Riot's skins and goodwill margin of error

As announced some time ago, Riot Games allows itself touse the skins champions to change their types. This has already taken place to “confirm” an origin. Graves and Twisted Fates, if they are familiar to Bilgewater in the lore, cut short the uncertainties by being the version of the Pirate skin. Thus doubt is no longer permitted. That's why you have to think bigger than the roster of 145 champions, and expand to a thousand skins...

Ryze, for example, has a Pirate skin, just like Fiddlestick or even Tristana. If the latter would probably make the gunslinger-Pirate composition too strong, the first two names are credible.

In addition, Riot Games has just announced the arrival of Kai'Sa as a Ranger Assassin, she who is however not considered as such on the Rift. If the lore justifies a very aggressive gameplay, the choice to present her as an Assassin is quite surprising. The following rule is probably the most important: Riot Games has the last word. If they want Xayah to be a mage, she will be. So take the above classifications as indications and nothing more.

predictions

Now let’s come to some predictions. There are easy grouping champions and therefore easy predictions. Obviously not an exhaustive list!

► The sublime would include all the inhabitants of Shurima: Amumu, Sivir, Azir, Renekton and Nasus, etc.

► Bard, as Wandering Guardian, could be another Exile like Yasuo. Riven would also stick wonderfully well to this particular class.

► Many champions use poison. The class " Toxic is potentially to be expected with Casiopeia, Teemo, Singed, and Twitch.

► Grouping champions like Jax, Gragas, Wukong, Yorick or Trundle would require a new class as none of them wear armor or use real weapons, but rather what they have at hand.

► There is no real Healer on Convergence. Sona, Soraka, etc., all these champions deserve a real class of their own.

► Champions of Ionia would represent a ready-made origin, even if some champions are already in TFT.

► Maokaï, Zyra and Ivern are all champions plants. Maokaï would be a Brawler and Zyra a Mage.

► This would require a rework of the class, but far too many champions stick to the origin of Ghosts so that we don't put them there. It is also possible to imagine another class for fearsome champions, such as Hecarim or Fiddlestick, which would allow the origin to be split in two.
