When you arrive in the mysterious “Dreamlight” valley of the new Disney X Gameloft game, you will obtain royal tools which will allow you to dig up objects, break rocks, garden, fish and other things… As you progress in the adventure you will have to improve these tools at some point, in particular the shovel to dig up the stumps of trees which block your way in the forest of courage or the pickaxe to be able to break the marine debris, these rocks / corals colored (e)s that can be seen on the enchanted beach. Magic tools in Disney Dreamlight Valley can be upgraded multiple times.
Eventually, you will be able to clear the mushrooms from the Bayou of Confidence or even destroy the small blocks of ice in front of the cave in the Forest of Courage and even the larger blocks of ice that are on the icy heights when you are at a stadium very advanced in your game. This guide shows you how you can upgrade your pickaxe or shovel in the Disney Dreamlight Valley game.
How to improve the pickaxe thanks to Moana's kingdom in Disney Dreamlight Valley:
You will get the first pickaxe upgrade by unlocking the Moana Kingdom. The first step is to remove the nocturnal thorns that prevent you from accessing the castle in Dreamlight Valley. When it's done, Merlin will ask you which realm you want to open first. You'll have the choice between "a desolate planet with a shy robot", "a restaurant with a great little chef" or "the ocean with a demi-god". Go for the third choice if your goal is to improve your pickaxe quickly and you will gain access to the kingdom of Moiana. Complete the quest of this kingdom when you are there to obtain the first improvement of the pickaxe which will allow you to break the small marine debris of enchanted beach for example.
To get the second pickaxe upgrade that can break larger rocks like the Enchanted Beach Large Marine Debris, you'll need to get Maui, the demigod and friend of Moana, to Dreamlight Valley. You will first need to build Moana's house in your domain in order to activate the kingdom quest "a feast fit for a demigod". You will then have to build in Maui a residence worthy of a demigod. You will be able to place his house on the enchanted beach. You will then start the “bury the eel” quest and will have to collect 3 worms and 8 softwood. Worms can be found around waterholes in the Quiet Meadow when digging with the shovel, and wood can be found all over the ground.
★ Note – If a character doesn't give you the expected quest, it's probably because you haven't increased your friendship level enough with him. You can very easily increase your friendship level with a specific character by gifting them a few items.
When you have what it takes, go to the crafting workshop (at home or in Scrooge's shop for example) and craft a Trap. You will have to place the Trap near the small wooden pontoon of the enchanted beach. The eel that will be attracted by the bait in the trap can be caught with your fishing rod. You will then only have to bury the eel on the beach by digging a hole with your shovel then water it to make a coconut tree. After a while you can pick up a coconut, bring it to Maui and follow it to the Enchanted Beach. He will then tell you that he can make your deck more solid (you will have to raise his friendship gauge to 4 by offering him items).
You will have to go to the kingdom of Moana and search the basket next to the boat on the island. Inside you will find 5 stone scrapers, clams, scallops and oysters. Take the items to Maui in Dreamlight Valley and he'll ask you to cook him a 5-star fresh meal. You can make a 5-star dish with a crayfish (caught on the enchanted beach), 2 clams, a tomato (buy seeds from Goofy's stand and grow some) and a lettuce stalk (same process as for the tomatoes). By mixing these ingredients, you can prepare the “Bouillabaisse” which is a 5 star dish. Once you give him this dish, Maui will upgrade your pickaxe for the second time, allowing you to smash the large colorful rocks/corals in the Enchanted Beach with one hit.
Get the Pickaxe and Shovel upgrade from Frozen in Disney Dreamlight Valley:
After you're done with Maui and the Kingdom of Moana, head to the castle to open a new Kingdom Gate. Choose to open the door which is on the first floor, the one where Merlin tells you that you will enter a country of Fjords and meadows with a very powerful woman with the ability to control ice and snow (you will need 4000 dots of Dreamlight). In this kingdom, you will start by meeting Anna, Elsa's sister. You will need to put on a pair of fireproof gloves and capture the Spirit of Fire. Next, Anna will suggest making a stone soup to make the stone golem move.
You will have to collect 3 pieces of rock in this kingdom and collect basil and oregano that can be found on the esplanade of Dreamlight Valley. Go home and prepare the 5-star “stone soup” dish. By bringing this soup back to the kingdom of the Snow Queen, you will soon meet Elsa who will ask you to collect some materials, including iron ingots, which you can craft at the workshop with pieces of iron to extract with your draw on the deposits located in the “Forest of Courage” area of Dreamlight Valley.
You will need to craft several Chimes which will allow you to drive away the wind and you will be able to welcome Anna into your domain. You will then have to build your friendship with her and look for a book in her house which is located in the “Forest of Courage”. This book will allow you to craft the "Shovel Bucket" at the workbench, which will allow you to upgrade your shovel to remove old stumps from the Forest of Courage. All you have to do is return to the kingdom of the Snow Queen and bring Anna's letter to Elsa to invite her to join the ice cave that you discovered in Dreamlight Valley.
Once Elsa accepts your invitation, you will realize that your pickaxe is not powerful enough to destroy the ice blocks blocking the entrance to the cave. You will then have to collect 1 vial of water from the ocean (obtained by interacting with the shiny point in the water on the enchanted beach), 5 sunflowers (you can find them on the esplanade and the enchanted beach), 5 lemons (obtained from trees in the Bayou of Confidence), 2 candy canes (to be purchased at Goofy's stand on the enchanted beach) and 3 cloves of garlic (to be picked up in the Forest of Courage). This will allow you to make the summer heat potion. When you have it in your hands, all you have to do is bring it to Elsa so that she can improve your pickaxe and you can finally break the ice blocks that are blocking your way.
★ Note 2 – Sometimes Elsa appears in the cave when you need to give her the summer heat potion. At this point, it is not yet clear whether this is a bug or not. She's not supposed to be able to enter the cave since you can't break the ice blocks yet. If this happens to you, be aware that all characters in Dreamlight Valley have a routine and it will eventually come out of the cave on its own (it can take several hours!).
You can get a final upgrade to your pickaxe by continuing your efforts with Elsa. You will have to free the "icy heights" area from the nocturnal thorns (10000 Dreamlight points anyway), bring "Rémy" (the Ratatouille rat) to the Valley by opening his kingdom if it has not already been done and increase the friendship level to 6 with Elsa. When it's done, you'll need to craft an Ice Bouquet for her, and you can craft a new potion to once again upgrade your pickaxe. Which will allow you to shatter even the biggest ice crystals found in the "icy heights" of Dreamlight Valley!
