Initially announced in August without further details, Sony's high-end and customizable DualSense is fully revealed before its upcoming arrival on PlayStation 5. The DualSense Edge (which should also be compatible on PC) will be launched on January 26, 2023 in the world. Its very high price of € 239,99 (which is still almost half the price of a PS5) is compensated by a certain degree of finish and a design which at first glance seems intelligent.
This DualSense "Pro" or "Deluxe Controller" has a nearly identical silhouette to the base DualSense that comes with every PS5 bundle, yet it will give players a wealth of additional customization options whether it's hardware or embedded software. If the price displayed may indeed seem totally crazy, it should still be kept in mind that this luxury controller is above all intended for the most demanding players who have a highly competitive spirit.
It is also not surprising to see Sony release its own high-end controller when we see the competition doing the same for a while now. Pro controllers have multiplied on the previous generation of consoles and key manufacturers like Microsoft or Nintendo have not waited to offer their own high-end game controllers. Microsoft with its "Xbox Elite" wireless game controller currently available in "Series 2" or Nintendo, to a lesser extent, with the Nintendo Switch pro controller which has the advantage of offering impressive autonomy in addition to remarkable ergonomics compared to standard "Joy-Cons".
DualSense Edge the official PS5 pro controller:
The DualSense Edge will be fully customizable, with interchangeable parts like the analog sticks that are removable. If the basic packaging has several types of caps for the joysticks, it will be possible at any time to buy a set of replacement sticks of two different heights (according to the needs of the player). Again, expect a still excessive price since the replacement modules for the DualSense Edge are announced at €24,99. The controller has two buttons on the back that are interchangeable (semi-rounded or paddles) and can be configured according to the player's needs to perform any key combination.
There is also a button on each side of the L2 / R2 triggers to adjust the distance they travel when you start pressing on them. Although the controller works wirelessly, a braided USB cable with a connection box that locks will be included, thus limiting disconnection accidents in competition and to limit latency in game as much as possible.
Pre-orders of this luxury controller will open from October 25, 2022 on the official PalyStation website while supplies last. While the DualSense Edge will be officially released on January 26, 2023. Note that it will then be possible to buy the controller from other retailers from February 23, 2023.
