With such a rich and colorful universe, endearing characters and such a scenario, Rio could have benefited from preferential treatment from THQ and the Eurocom studio, who preferred to choose the easy card by opting for the party game. Those who hoped to see in this title a nice action / adventure game risk pulling the mug, because here, we are dealing with mini-games as simplistic as they are funny when they are not repetitive and boring. Because with a total of 40 different events, we had to expect a certain inequality in the quality and originality of these mini-games. The number is certainly there (although with the competition, we count twice), but very quickly, we realize that it is more or less the same tests, the different coating in addition. Whether you throw snowballs or fruit in the face of your opponents, the result is the same, especially since the principle is limited to these basic rules, to say the least, where even scoring has difficulty justifying the 'Want to go further. Fortunately, there are some challenges that allow you to have a good time, such as the dance step or the bomb race, but nothing too transcendent either, the Mario Parties and others are full of good and new ideas. Then there are the game modes, presented here as a party style, which somewhat redistribute the role of each player during a game. In "Versus" mode, it's every man for himself, while "Team" mode requires you to select a partner to accumulate points. Each of these described styles has a quiz version, which adds a series of questions between rounds. Not enough to break three legs of a parrot. The "Story" mode could also have offered a certain challenge, but it is just a question of chaining the trials encountered in the other modes, brightened up here and there by a few cutscenes, which are only – very – short extracts from the feature film. Only the "Carnival Wheel" and "Gala de garlands" modes vary the pleasures somewhat, by involving host characters or by offering completely different rules. But again, not enough to last a whole evening. This is all the more regrettable because the production of the game does not lack color and life, with respect for the world of animated film and a festive atmosphere to say the least. Moreover, if you are one of the people who generously applauded Rio at the end of the session will certainly be delighted to learn that the main protagonists are part of the video game adventure. Before each mini-game, it is even possible to choose from Blu, Perla, Pedro, Nico, Rafael or even Eva. Even the vile Hector and the friendly bulldog Luiz are part of the adventure, but only as guest-stars, or hosts as we say here.
