Slime Rancher 2 isn't the kind of game that takes the time to explain its gameplay mechanics to you. On the contrary, the developers have chosen to let players explore and discover at their own pace what this world and the Rainbow Island have to offer by playing as Beatrix LeBeau. When you start your adventure on Slime Rancher 2, it is therefore very difficult to know what to do and what the game expects of you. To guide you on the issue and allow you to better understand some of the facets of Slime Rancher 2, we suggest you discover some tips and tricks that should prove useful if you are still a beginner.
Tip 1 – Upgrade your slime enclosure as soon as possible:
From the first minutes spent on the rainbow island of Slime Rancher 2, you will see that you already have a slime enclosure in your greenhouse. It is therefore natural that you will be tempted to throw your first slimes inside. While the pink-colored gelatinous creatures will mostly stay indoors, other species will tend to jump quite high and run away…
To prevent this from happening and you actually start farming slimes, you will simply have to interact with the command device (which looks like a pillar) next to the enclosure and you can do some upgrades there in exchange of Neobucks coins. Slime corals (the name given to enclosures in the game) can have higher walls making it difficult for your creatures to escape, or you can place a net on the ceiling for extra security.
Tip 2 – Feed the Gordo if you want to explore new areas:
The starting area you can explore on Rainbow Island in Slime Rancher 2 is quite limited. However, you can quickly access new regions of the game by simply feeding the giant slimes which remain motionless in certain places otherwise called "Gordo" in the game. All they ask is that you feed them with their food favourites. Aim your gun at the slime in question to find out what it likes and feed it enough to clear the way. This may well lead you to a mechanism that will allow you to teleport to the following islands!
Tip 3 – Look for the data points and you won't walk blind anymore:
Most of the visible areas on the Slime Rancher 2 map are covered in heavy fog that prevents you from getting a good overview when exploring. To lift the fog, you just have to spot the data points in your environment and go interact with them. Doing this will clear the fog all around you. You should make this task a priority when you start playing Slime Rancher 2. Crafting the JetPack at the forge will make it easier to access these data points.
Tip 4 – Observe the course of prices on the Plorte market:
By feeding the slimes or spending time with them in their natural habitat, it is possible to get all kinds of resources… Water plort, crystal plort, pink plort and so on… Which plort you get depends on the species of slime you have fed or encountered. These materials in the game are very practical for making money and improving the greenhouse. This is also the whole point of farming in Slime Rancher 2 since with a little effort your creatures will naturally generate money for you with the Plorts they produce.
A giant board in your greenhouse allows you to sell your materials. But be careful, we advise you to check the market price before selling them to get the most benefit from your plortes. Best is to temporarily store them in a silo and sell them when the stock price is high enough!
Tip 5 – Remember to store your materials in the refinery:
In the basement of your greenhouse, you will find a laboratory with several facilities such as the refinery or the forge. Sending your plorts to the refinery will allow you to store them for future use with the forge. Be careful, all the resources you put in the refinery can no longer be recovered. These resources are only dedicated to the use of the forge. However, do not worry about doing so since the forge allows you to make many improvements to your tools and also allows you to make some very useful spatio-temporal technologies. It's up to you to find a good compromise between making money with the market (earning Neobucks) and storing resources at the refinery in order to make improvements with the forge. Note that you will be able to craft portable refineries over time allowing you to store your resources without necessarily needing to return to your greenhouse.
Tip 6 – You can pass the time to speed things up:
If you've figured out the trick to mass-producing resources with your slimes in their enclosures and want to speed up production, consider resting in your house at the Greenhouse. Indeed, by interacting with the door of the house near the painting of the Plortes market you can choose to rest for several hours or even a full day. When you wake up, your gardens, chicken coops, slime paddocks, and other facilities will have produced a whole host of things for you to harvest. Make sure the feeder in the enclosures is full enough, though, to make sure your slimes won't run out of food as the hours tick by!
Tip 7 – Search the areas of the game well to find useful treasures:
As you explore the areas of Rainbow Island, in many nooks and secluded caves you will find capsules that contain useful crafting blueprints. Some of these plans will allow you to unlock new facilities at the greenhouse while others will give you access to upgrades, such as expanding your inventory or improving your health and energy gauge. Remember to thoroughly search each of the areas you explore on the island. By opening your map, you can get an overview of how many capsules you have left to open in a biome.
Tip 8 – Consider interacting with your greenhouse's communication station:
If an exclamation point appears in the center of the comms station, a character wants to talk to you. You should take the time to do this especially as as you progress through the game new people will become available. This is a good opportunity for you to better understand the role you have to play while exploring the Rainbow Island, but above all they sometimes give you crafting plans which can be very useful to progress in the game.
