The main novelty of this extension therefore concerns the arrival of three careers. Only three, one would even be tempted to say. Fortunately, the three professions concerned (doctor, detective, scientist) are very different from each other, and each of them turns out to be rather interesting. However, the first steps at work are sometimes quite thankless since a promotion system is applied. Before being able to carry out the most advanced actions, it is necessary to fulfill sometimes more modest objectives. Thus, to embrace the career of a hospital doctor, you will first have to perform tasks worthy of a cleaning lady. After redoing a certain number of beds and cleaning the floor several times, you can then examine patients and carry out some medical analyses. Eventually, you will be allowed to make diagnoses, dispense medication, and even perform surgery or deliver babies. But beware, as in real life, medical errors are possible. Less risky, the career of a scientist essentially consists of taking samples from nature and inventing ever more complex machines in his laboratory. The top of the top concerns the electroflux wormhole generator, which provides access to the extraterrestrial world called Sixam (Maxis upside down, for the anecdote). Contrary to what happened in The Sims 3: Seasons, the planet is this time really visitable. This is one of the good surprises of this extension, all the more unexpected since it is not directly linked to the world of work. As a result, aliens are already arriving in The Sims 4. Recognizable by their green or blue skin and their pointed ears, they can also disguise themselves as humans and go unnoticed. Some will even go so far as to kidnap Sims, while others will go so far as to make them pregnant. In the case of a mixed pregnancy, the baby has a one in two chance of being extra-terrestrial (and therefore a one in two chance of being human).
ELEMENTARY MY DEAR WATSIM!
Of the three careers mentioned above, we still have to detail that of detective, which is certainly the most varied and the most pleasant. If it is still possible to perform a few thankless tasks, such as drawing up reports in the street or welcoming Sims to the police station, interesting actions are available to us from day one. We must thus go to the scene of a crime, in order to study the scene, collect fingerprints, collect evidence, take photos and question witnesses. Back at the police station, you have to pass the evidence to the chemical analyzer and use a computer to record the different elements. Eventually, we'll collect enough information to get a suspect's name. We must then launch a wanted poster, and question passers-by to help us find our man (or our woman). Once the miscreant has been arrested, all that remains is to take his fingerprints, take mug shots and, above all, question him in order to make him confess. For this, many dialogue options are available to us and we almost always end up putting the criminal in prison. Prison which can quite be located in the basement, since The Sims 4 now manages this feature (unlike the basic version of the game).
In addition to the three main careers, Get to Work provides us with two new skills (Photography and Baking) as well as a new district called Magnolia Promenade and dedicated to shopping. This last point is not anecdotal because the extension also gives the player the possibility of opening his own store. It is possible to create just about any shop (bakery, clothing store, bookstore, art gallery…), to hire staff and, of course, to lose or win money according to the prices charged and attendance at the venue. To make a fortune it is better to monitor customers, who have the unfortunate tendency to leave without paying. Rather well done and relatively complete, even if we regret that only three careers are available, this first expansion for The Sims 4 does not however solve the major problems of the original game. We thus find ourselves once again with long and numerous loading times, which in particular handicaps the career of detective, since it obliges us to go regularly to different places. But it is obviously the commercial policy of the publisher which comes to spoil the party the most, since this extension costs the trifle of 40€. And this is only the first...
