This explains the presence of the 4 main characters of the Bat Family (Batgirl, Nightwing, Red Hood and Robin).
Remember that if the game invites players to follow in the footsteps of the dark knight, the story is not really connected to the Batman Arkham series from Rocksteady, the software having its own story and its own universe. Not to be confused with the game Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League which is the next game from Rocksteady studio. In Gotham Knights, Batman has disappeared from the radar (presumed dead), crime has exploded in Gotham City, and it's the Knights of the Bat Family's turn to protect Gotham.

★ Update – The PlayStation Store listing has been updated again, Gotham Knights will play well in online co-op, but with two players only. The official website confirms that local cooperation is not possible. At least this time, things are clear!
Old version → Although Gotham Knights was billed as a two-player cooperative game, plans had to change on the Warner Bros Games Montreal side to expand the game up to 4 players. Unfortunately, no information about local multiplayer, there is little chance that Gotham Knights is playable on the same game console by sharing the same screen.
