World of Warcraft Shadowlands: What are the calls, what happened to the emissaries

World of Warcraft Shadowlands has world quests, but instead of helping Emissaries you will finish Apples for rewards. That's right, Emissaries don't exist in the Shadowlands (they're still there for Legion and Battle for Azeroth). You will no longer look on your map to preview who should complete World Quests. The new Callings in your Alliance's Sanctuary are your go-to NPCs for daily World Quest rewards, though there's a bit more to the system now than before.

Callings replace Emissaries in Shadowlands and can be found in your Alliance Sanctuary.

Callings are daily quests that can be found in your Alliance's Sanctuary in the Shadowlands. There are no traditional emissaries to speak of, but appeals work the same way. There are a maximum of three available at any given time, and if you clear them all, only one will refresh each day. So if you miss a day, you'll go back to two calls, and if you skip two days, you'll have three calls. Otherwise, you will have access to one call per day if you follow them.

Unlike Emissary Calls, you'll often need to do more than just complete World Quests. They'll still send you all over the Shadowlands, so you won't be stuck with just clearing objectives in your Covenant's area. You may simply have the ability to clear certain dungeons in the area associated with the call, loot chests to progress, or even kill rare mobs. You may even be asked to collect items from Torghast: the offer is a bit more varied with Callings, but nothing too dramatic.

Calls will have the usual blue exclamation mark associated with daily newspapers, but with the main campaign shield surrounding it. You can also check which calls are available by viewing your Shadowlands Covenant Shrine Report (the icon at the bottom left of the minimap, assuming you haven't changed your UI to the Maw and vice versa). The Covenant menu has a dedicated area for calls on the left, and you can hover over each one to see what the quest is, what the reward will be, and how long to wait for completed calls to reset. Remember that calls will still appear in your shrine, so be sure to collect them before you go on an adventure.

As for rewards, Callings grant Tribute Chests. These will always contain a handful of Anima items and several junk items that sell for a few hundred gold each. You will usually walk away with at least 35 Anima and 1000 gold, but you might get lucky and get better rewards. There is always a chance for better items, but Anima and Trash items are guaranteed. Calls also scale at level 50, so if you level up an alt with the Threads of Fate, you can start knocking calls out as soon as you select the option.
